The Clinical Observation of Hypotension during Anesthesia

Abstract
Hypotension is a common complication during anesthesia. Many contributing factors are known such as heavy premedication, method of anesthesia, overdose of anesthetic agents, hemorrhage, excessive surgical manipulation and septic shock etc.
Early discovery of causes and immediate corrective measures are mandatory to prevent more serious outcomes.
A statistical analysis is made to study the hypotensive complication during anesthesia. Hypotension is defined when systolic blood pressure was below 80mmHg. Among 5718 anesthetic cases who were older than 15 years of age, 483 cases were collected at Han Kang Sacred Heart Hospital from Dec. 1971 to Aug. 1975.
The results were as follows;
1) The incidence of hypotension was 8.4%.
2) OB-GY dept. was of most prominent.
3) More than half the total cases for the patients in the second or third decade of their age. 4) More than three forths total cases were emergency cases.
5) Almost all cases have been employed the general anesthesia.
6) Most prominent cause of hypotension was hemorrhage and next was overdose of anesthetics.
7) More than half the total cases have done transfusion.
8) Motality of the hypotensive patients during the .anesthesia was 6.8%.
